Basic Groove Elements System
What it is & Why it is
The Basic Groove Elements System... (BGE)
... is a simple, step by step, quick guide to becoming a song and band drummer in no time. The basic idea is that playing along to many songs and/or participating in a band does not have to be too hard. Knowing only a few much used drum grooves, a hand full of additional tricks and and getting a little creativity with it, can get you on your way and having fun in no time. My philosophy is that every learning step is as fallible as the next. And every step can be revisited and deepened over a life time. All steps in the BGE system are interconnected. Learning, experiencing and implementing this interconnectivity throughout the system will help you become a solid, flexible and versatile drummer.
As a teacher...
... at the International School of Amsterdam I found that every lesson should be one that students can take with them and use al over the world. Many students stayed on for a few years where others left fairly quickly, following their moving expat parents around the world. At the same time I wanted to create a methode that helped them build a solid drumming foundation over time. I don't like to teach students some fancy circus tricks on the drums that can’t seem to find their use in any song or music. Rhythmical circus tricks are fun, absolutely! But many times useless when making or creating music with other musicians. And personally, that would be my main goal and biggest pleasure. Making music with others. Converse with all kinds of music and people, through my drums. My goal with this BGE system would be to help students on there way fast and efficiently and to, maybe above all, become unique and independent Band-Drummers!
