About me
What makes me tick... all day long!
Your Drum teacher
A short summary:
I have been a drum teacher for over 30 years now. My profesinal scollar is in Jazz drums and Latin and African hand percussion, levels 1 and 2, from the ArtEZ Academy in Holland and have been working as a drummer for about the same amount of years. With Amsterdam as my home base I have been working locally and international as a live and studio drummer in many different bands, project, acts, performances, both commercially and in more art and singer songwriter environments.
On a more personal note:
From very early on I have been drawn to music. Listening, singing and dancing to it when ever I could. Being about ten years old, I vividly remember when my real fascination for music started. Before I just simply liked some music and some songs more the others, I did not give it a second thought. But then one time I noticed that, with in a song that I liked a lot, some specific piece in the song made the hairs of my arm stand up and I got the chills. I was blow away with this effect on my body and the emotion that came with it. So much so, that I had to examining what it was that triggers it. When does this happen and why and how? The curiosity for this phenomenon has never left me and the quest is still on. Back then (and still) I loved al kinds of instruments and loved to fumble around on them, as specialty my grandad’s piano. (I have my own now 🙂 It was, looking back on it now, like music and musical instruments had something to say. But it was not until I found the drums that I discovered the language and confidence to talk back and answer it’s call, so to say. Since then drumming and music in general, started filling me up.
With my live online lessons and the Basic Groove Elements video course, that I am currently creating, I hope to take drum students along a similar path. Discovering what you like about the drums. What you like about drumming it self, music in general and/or instruments on their own. What in music or drumming is giving you goosebumps? It is an exiting journey that keeps on giving.
Enjoy!!
